Intentions- influences

During our tutorial with Nigel, we walked around looking at everything, on the floor, up, down everywhere! The point of this was that inspiration is all around and we need to look more to notice. We went up to the multi story car park which was interesting as normally you don't pay much attention but as we we're drawing things are noticed more. Walking around:
Noticing the building has different qualities, the different tones of grey and the shaped windows. I used graphite to draw some windows and grey felt pen, drawing quickly on the spot is quite difficult but it means that more drawing is done creating more inspiration and development.
Looking down at the city. Noticing the landscape like a page of marks already. I seem to be drawn to the windows, as they are linear and repeat I could quickly draw these using continuous line. Having a limited amount of drawing equipment wasn't too bad as I picked the important colours from the landscape and finding the nearest one to use.
Looking down on the floor I noticed tire marks which we're green, normally tire  marks are black so this almost looks photoshopped. It reminds me of spilled paint and can imagine the tire driving through the paint to create this mark.
The work of Maija Louekari is interesting as she uses layers of different media to create a busy city scene. She overlaps the different drawings creating texture and reflects the mood of the city.

Intentions- Urban landscapes

The first thing that comes into my head when I think about urban landscapes is buildings. This is quite obvious but buildings are everywhere! The city is also something I think about, with busy pavements, noise and people.
One of the most obvious cities which comes into my head is New York. I've visited the big apple and think it absolutely amazing! The hustle and bustle of the city is what makes it. My first thoughts are the huge amount of windows and the structure and shape of the buildings. I could do fast drawings to create the mood and feel of the city (Manchester)
Travelling back to Manchester from Sheffield. The landscape of Sheffield buildings, shows linear qualities and layers of different buildings. The squares in the far left building interested me as they are at different angles. I'm interested in the repetition of the windows and feel that drawing these over in layers with different media would be affective.
From my summer project I briefly looked at an artist called Alyn Carlson. She creates organic drawings with ink under. I love the colours she uses and the texture she creates by just using watercolour with fine pencil/pen drawings over the top creating shape and fluidity.

I could incorporate a similar style into my work linking it to urban landscapes, with linear qualities and repeat.

Inspirations workshop

Over the summer our holiday project was focused on inspiration and every day influences. I spent most my summer outside in the country side and the coast. My work shows natural colour, marks and pattern.
I like to draw things quite abstract and stylize what I'm drawing. This one worked well as in the group feedback the girls thought this would be lovely as a really big print for interior. 'I would love to walk into my house and see this print' hazel mentioned this and I was pleased as my main focus and context for my work is interior. This drawing could be developed adding more detail in the flowers. My work was described as 'very English' and felt warm and showed personality.

This was one of the drawings which sparked the use of embroidery. As I like to layer my drawings with different media we thought stitch could be added creating 2D texture. My consistant use of continuous line drawing was not ignored as it shows flow. Maybe I could draw on a bigger scale to show intentions of a fabric.

One thing the girls thought was effective was my use of colour and the media used. I like to use a very strong pigment watered down to ink as it drys in different tones creating texture to the flat drawing. Again they could see a strong sense of interior. A few darker drawings over the top of this would add more detail and would be better suited to a fabric design.
One of the girls mentioned an artist I could be interested in which is similar to mine.
Kurt shwitters uses papers he saves from everyday life and uses them to collage. I could add more collage in my work showing the mood and tone to a certain image turning it into a drawing.
