Degree show Alice Pickworth 2015

The work of Alice Pickworth inspired me greatly, as she is a print designer she screen prints large designs using various dyes including reactive, acid and pigment printing.
The scale of her work is amazing and I would love to work with large amounts of fabric; to do this  shows scale and context of the work and the pattern is appreciated more. I like how she layers the design with different colours. the texture of her prints works well and shows the different colours coming through each layer. I want to work with various dyes in the print room and exploring acid dye creating brighter coloured prints.

This print from the degree show website shows her use of colour and beautiful drawings, its almost mesmerising! In third year I want to create repeat pattern using the same technique as Alice uses, I think it will be out of my comfort zone but it is something I've been wanting to try, even though my digital skills aren't too good I really want to explore this further and would love to create a print in this scale and technique.

Degree show Safia Ann Kukaswadia 2015

After visiting the degree show I was very inspired and loved the work of Safia Ann Kukaswadia. Her work is abstract and print based with detailed embroidery.

This piece inspires me as I like how she has used the scale of the print on the fabric. It's not over crowded and she has kept it simple. I want to keep my work quite minimal and not over print on designs. The pigment with embellishment over creates texture and a slight shimmer, lifting the print.

In my final year I would like to create larger pieces like she has done for these prints, this will help me to understand my context further and show the scale of my work. Safia uses abstract marks on her prints which I think works well and can adapt to any context.
The range of prints she has vary in design but work well as a collection. I want to aim for this depth of work and feel that having a large varied amount will help me to understand my practice further. I hope to create prints which can be adapted to different products for the home. This work inspires me to do this as I can visualise it on different types of soft furnishings for the home.
